June 05, 2006 - WGBH Boston

Dr. Phaedra Doukakis interviewed from Almaty, Kazakhstan is featured in the Geo Quiz segment broadcast of the show The World.

Listen to the interview with fish biologist Dr. Phaedra Doukakis of the University of Miami's Pew Institute for Ocean Science as she describes her unusual research. She's tracking endangered Caspian Sea sturgeon by attaching Pop-up Archival Transmitting (PAT) tags to four sturgeons in the hope of getting a clear picture of their movement and behavior.

We were looking for the 1,575 mile long river that flows through Russia and Kazakhstan and into the Caspian Sea. The answer is the Ural River.
