A compelling, four-page profile of Dr. Ellen Pikitch, Executive Director of the Institute for Ocean Conservation Science at Stony Brook University, appears in the Spring 2009 issue of The Brook.

Newsday editorial writer Robert F. Keeler traces Dr. Pikitch's evolution from her youth in Coney Island, where she learned to snatch killifish from the surf with her bare hands, to her high school prowess in math and marine biology, to her journey as a global leader in marine science, shark biology, and fishery management. Dr. Pikitch is now a Professor at the university's School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences, training the ocean champions of tomorrow.
